Blogging Experience

First of all I want to say that I am not very good on web sites or blogs, but I am trying to learn more about it, because they are very useful, for instead if you want to express ideas or show new proyects.

The experience of the blog has been very good I have practiced a lot my English. Languages are all about practice, in my case I went to an English school, but I didn't had the opportunity to practice since I went out.

I think my English had improved since I started the course, but I need to keep practicing to get to the level of fluency that I had went I went out of school. A lot of that improvement is because of the writing experience, because you need to organize ideas, think about vocabulary, spelling, so all of that makes a difference in your speaking skills.

The topics of the blog were really fun, I think that my favorite was the topic about the place to eat. But all the topics were fun because it was about to write of our experiences and our thoughts.

I don't want to forget my English knowledge again, so I should keep writing, because is a very good way to excercise.

I love NY

My favorite city in the hole world is New York, well I don' t know NY I haven't been in the east cost on the united states ever, so maybe when I know it my opinion will change.

My dream holidays would be going to NY and stay at the WALDORF HOTEL, so tipical NY. I would love to wake up there and go to 5th avenue and buy a lot of shoes at the stores of Jimmy Cho or Manolo Blanik.

I love fashion and NY is one the most importat city in that industry, so of course that during my holidays I must go a fashion show. Also for a perfect holiday I would have to go out to eat to a beautiful restaurant, with the best chef.

Of course that all of this in VERY expensive and I can't aford it, but in some years from now I could aford a trip to NY, maybe I won't stay at the Waldorf and I won't buy hundreds of shoes, but I could buy a pair. After that trip I would know if NY is the city of my dreams or not.

This picture is very special for me. It was taken on februery 27, the day of the earthquake.

We were with my friends at the beach after I had a long summer doing an architecture workshop, so we were having fun at the only week of holidays that I has going to have.

In this holidays all my best friends were with me so we were having a really good time, even though the holidays were short. I remember that he laughed so much that my stomach acked.

After we hang out on the beach we went to the house we were renting and aet something, then we went out to a disco. Then about 3:30, the earth started moving and we ran out of the disco, then my holidays ended sooner than I have thought.

Then he were very scared and we didn' t know what has gooing on, were the epicenter had been and if our families were ok. So we just sataed home until we could go back to our homes.

Its really strange how we were so relaxed and unaware of what was going to happen that night, how your life can change in a cuple of hours.

My favorite place to eat

First of all I would like to say that I love to eat, I think that food is one of the pleasures of life, so I am always happy to try new flavors and to know new places to eat.

My favorite place to eat is the restobar Victorino, is in Lastarria street, in the neighborhood of the museum of bellas artes. This is a very beautiful area there are a lot of restaurants, bars, coffe shops and design boutiques, so is a really cool place to go to eat or drink something. I love this area and I

used to live in the neighborhood so thats how I know this place.

Victorino has a mix of latinamerican food, they a variaty of appetizers, for the main course you could find some dishes with meat, lamb, chicken and fish, something really good is that they have some types of fishes that are not very easy to find, like Tuna or Mahi Mahi that is a fish from the Easter Island and also they have a lot of coctail drinks and very good wines.

My favorite dinner would be: for appetizer a salmon ceviche, for the main course lamb with potatoes ñoquis and for the desert a chocolate soufflé with mint ice-cream, all of this with a good glass of wine.

To conclude I definitly recomend this place, mainly because they have really good food and is not expensive at all, you can eat a great meal for 10.000 pesos, so I am hoping to go soon.

The most common type of person

I am at the arcuitecture and urbanism faculty, at the career of architecture. This is a very stressful career, you sleep very little and you work a lot making blueprints and designing.

I think that the most common stereotype is the stressed person, but this is not just a person that get stressed frequently, they do everything with stress and anxiaty.

This type of person usually is very skinny or fat, because they eat really bad or they just don't eat at all, because they don't have time. Also it could be combined with baldness or gray hairs.

In therms of clothing most of always dress the same cloth every time you see them, because they can't think about anything else than work or study.

In their social life they don't have many friends and they go out that much, you might see them at birthdays but only if they don't have a date line.

There is a lot of people like this in my faculty, I think is really sad because it's not very fun to live like this, after some years they won't have a lot of good memories.

I think that is better to relax sometimes and enjoy the moment or even the hard work, but with a peaceful actitud that will make all the aspects of your life more pleasant.

My favorite movie

My favorite movie or maybe the one that left me more amazed is Avatar, a James Cameron movie.
The movie is about the humans that want a mineral in a far away planet, but the natives of the planet don't have any interest in what humans can offer, they have a culture that is interested in nature and magic.
The director is James Cameron, it took him about eight years to create this film, because the technology has not evolved enough when he thought about the film. He created a hole new world, with a language, animals, plants and believes.
The main characters are a militar that is introduced in this new planet as one of the natives and the other is a native girl. At first they hated each other because they are so different but then they get to know better, and they fall in love.
I think this is a great movie, thi was a big step for film industry because it was the movie that wide spread the 3d technology, but besides the incredible technology, the story is a critic to what the united states have done mainly in Irak war, where they manipulated the situation to extract the oil.

My tecnologic atom

I am not a very technological person, a lot of times I would prefer to be somewhere else than seating in front of my computer. But technology has become a necessity now days.

My favorite and I think almost my only piece of technology, is my imac, that is a mac computer. This computer is very user friendly, it's simple and entertaining, also the design is beautiful, it's sleek and bright.

This computer has like five years now, so the technology has evolved a lot since then. When I bought it, it was one of the best computer in the market. Also it had something that was never seen before, that the CPU was integrated in the screen, so it could fit anywhere.

There is other MAC atoms that I love, but I don't have them. I am planing to buy a macbook, to be able to work at the faculty and take it with me everywhere that I want. I really like MAC technology, everything is easier and you can tell that the people that created the technologic pieces, thought about every little detail, about how you could work but without the feeling that you are working, so this pieces are a great way to make your life easier and happier.

As an architect I would love to design a computer for MAC one day.

My favorite trip

My favorite trip is the first time that I went to Barcelona. I went there with my dad, sins he was going to do a workshop at Autónoma University of Barcelona.

My dad and I woke up very early every day, because we wanted to go to as much places that we could, during the time that we had.

We visited the most famous buildings of Gaudi, like La Pedrera, Batlo's house and Park Guell. Also we went to Dali´s museum, that was not at Barcelona, so we had to took the train. The museum was awesome, almost all of the artist work was there it was very impressive and exhausting too, because he had to walk a lot to see the hole museum. But the most entertaining thing was to just walk at the street, and feel the life of the cafes, bars, tabaco shops, and everything that gives the identity to the city.

For me Barcelona was an opening mind experience, in terms of culture and arts. To be able to see all of that helped me to make my career choice, because I had the opportunity to see what an architect could do at it's best.

Someone who I admire

The woman of the picture is Zaha Hadid, she is an architect. She studied Mathematics and then Architecture, she was student of Rem Koolhaas and followed his steps.

I really like her architectural style, she is very innovative, she uses organic forms and she always tries to make projects that have public spaces.

She was the first woman to win the Pritzker, that is a price that awards the best architect and it is given every year, it's like the Nobel price for the Architects.

I have never been in one of her buildings but it would be really exciting. I hope that one day I could visit the bridge that she made in Zaragoza in Spain, for the Expo Zaragoza 2008.

I think that she is really an inspiration, not only for me as a student of architecture, but also for all women that are being successful on their fields. Because she is not the typical successful person, she is a woman, she is Iranian, and she is not good looking, so I imagine that it should not have been easy for her to get were she is know. Also the fact that she is Iranian is very important, because there is a lot of discrimination for the Muslims around the world. 

The earthquake in the city of Constitucion

The earthquake of February 27, was my first earthquake and I was very lucky, in my house everything was fine and nothing broke. But not everybody had the same luck.
I had the opportunity to go to the city on Constitución, because of the workshop of the teacher Guillermo Crovari. He wanted to make the workshop about how we could make solve the need of houses by using containers.
At the trip we could see the destruction most of all caused by the tsunami, it was really sad to see the people belongings still left there, all of there memories and dreams where destroyed, just in a few minutes.
I hope that as an arcuitecture student I could make a difference in the future of Constitución, even if it is a very small help.

Introducing myself

I am Camila Knuckey, I study Arquitecture at University of Chile. Now I am in an exchange semester with Catholic University, I am just doing the subjetc of workshop of arquitecture.
I have two teachers, one is Pedro Alonso and the other is Francisca Astaburuaga, the topic of the workshop is a friendly environment proposal for the city of María Elena, that is the last "company town" left form the nitrate industry.
